Who can participate?
Qualifying students in Ireland (see Rules for qualification) between the ages of 13 and 18 are encouraged to participate, and need not have a background in programming.
Do I need to know how to program to participate?
You can use the first phase to learn and develop your programming skills. Some of the questions in the competition will require knowing programming languages, so the earlier you get practising the better! Other questions are based on logic puzzles for which nothing except thinking is required.
How do I participate?
If you have a teacher, ask him/her if they have already registered you. Registration will be open from 21st September until 23rd November.
My teacher/school is not participating, can I still take part?
If your teacher is not participating and you would like to participate email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. You will need to have a Google account to participate - if you do not already have one, you create a free one by following this link.
How long will the practice phase last?
Registration will open on 21st September. Once you are fully registered by your teacher, and you have obtained parental consent, you can go to the resources page and start learning how to program and try out some sample logic puzzles. The practice phase will end at 0:00 GMT on 24th November 2015.
How much time will the competition take?
While the competition window will be open on 25th November from 08:00-23:59 GMT, we anticipate that the average student will not need more than 2 hours total to get through all of the questions asked. Remember as well that time will be a factor for tie-breaking purposes.
Can I ask questions during the competition?
During the competition participants may ask any questions about the tasks via the website. Click the "Ask a question" link on the Problems tab for clarification questions, and someone will get back to you. We will have real time support available at the following times on 25th November:
At other times, someone will get back to you as soon as they can.
